International Advisory Panel

The Advisory Panel of the UNESCO Chair in Sustainable Urban Development for Asia and the Pacific consists of internationally renowned academics and experts in 'Sustainable Urban Development'. Members of the Advisory Panel have an observer status and provide direct input into the work conducted by the UNESCO Chair. The members support a global contact network, share knowledge, and ensure that the Chair's output is a meaningful resource.

Prof John Carter

Professor John Carter, AM
Pro-Vice-Chancellor, University of Newcastle, Australia

Dr. John Carter is Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment at the University of Newcastle and Consultant Director, Advanced Geomechanics Pty Ltd. He is a former National Chair of the Australian Geomechanics Society, and is currently Vice-President of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering.  He is a director of the Newcastle Port Corporation, a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Sciences and Engineering and a Member of the Order of Australia.



Louise Cox

Louise Cox, AM
Président, UIA Union Internationale des Architectes

Louise Cox holds currently the UIA Presidency since 2008, following a distinguished career as Australian architect, former President of the RAIA, and as academic involved in the accreditation of architectural programmes in the Asia-Pacific region. She is based in Sydney, committed to sustainable development and renewing the engagement of UIA with UNESCO and UN Habitat.



Philip Follent

Philip Follent
Queensland Government Architect, Brisbane, Australia

Phil Follent recently took on the role of Queensland Government Architect in 2008, having formerly been Gold Coast City Architect for four years. In 2007, he was awarded a Life Fellowship by the Royal Australian Institute of Architects. He is well-known for his passion and commitment to environmentally sustainable development, advocating principles of sub-tropical urban design.



Prof Peter Herrle

Professor Peter Herrle
Chair, Habitat Unit, University of Technology Berlin, Germany

Dr. Peter Herrle is professor of architecture and international urbanism at the Berlin University of Technology (TU Berlin) and Head of the Habitat Unit. He has worked extensively in development cooperation, with a special interest in urban development, social sustainability and globalization. Since 2002, he has been Adjunct Professor at Tongji University, Shanghai.



Prof Arvind Krishan

Professor Arvind Krishan
Chair, School of Planning and Architecture SPA, New Delhi, India

Dr. Arvind Krishan is an architect, planner and structural engineer with a particular interest in energy-efficient buildings. He is the former Dean of Studies and Head of Department; he is a consultant to World Bank and a member of UNEP Expert group on Eco-Cities.



Prof Zhenyu Li

Professor Zhenyu Li
Vice Dean, College of Architecture and Urban Planning, Tongji University, Shanghai

Dr. Zhenyu Li is specialized in questions of housing, residential quarters and urban design. He has built numerous housing projects in China and has published papers and books in the field of sustainable housing development.



Prof William S. Logan

Professor William S. Logan
UNESCO Chair of Cultural Heritage, Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia

Dr. Bill Logan is Alfred Deakin Professor and UNESCO Chair of Heritage and Urbanism at Deakin University, where he also directs the Cultural Heritage Centre for Asia and the Pacific. He was President of Australia ICOMOS (1999-2002), works closely with UNESCO and ICOMOS International and has published extensively on Vietnam, Laos and China.



Prof David P.Y. Lung

Professor David P.Y. Lung
Chair, The University of Hong Kong, Department of Architecture / ICOMOS, Hong Kong

Dr. David Lung is Founding Director of the Architectural Conservation Programme at the University of Hong Kong. From 2002 to 05 he was Head of the Department of Architecture.

He is Vice President of the China chapter of the International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and Founding Member of the UNESCO-ICCROM Asian Academy for Heritage Management; and Vice-Chairman of ICOMOS, China.
